    Aeotec’s New Z-Wave MultiSensor 6

    Table of Contents

    Aeon Labs new Z-Wave 6-in-1 sensor is a mini marvel.

    It can detect motion, temperature, light, humidity, vibration and Ultraviolet.

    With its tapered 42 mm body, the MultiSensor 6 is 70% smaller than its predecessor and it works for up to 2 years before you need to change the two CR123A batteries. The new unit also employs its vibration sensor for tamper protection too.

    Other advances include the use of the next generation ‘Z-Wave Plus‘ chip that brings a host of improvements in speed, wireless range and security…

    MultiSensor 6 is a part of Aeotec by Aeon Labs’ Gen5 range of Z-Wave products. That means that it outperforms all that has come before it. It’s built upon the latest Z-Wave 500 series chip and firmware, offering a 50% greater wireless range and a 250% faster communication speed over previous Z-Wave products. And, because security is integral, it always has AES 128 bit security encryption built right in.

    The 6-in-1 unit is also IP20 rated so you can use MultiSensor 6 outdoors, disabling its motion sensor and using its 5 other sensors.

      This sounds great, one question though, what would I use ultraviolet sensing for?

      @Stuart – from their website…

      “MultiSensor 6 accurately measures ultraviolet light; the kind of light that causes everything from furniture bleaching to eye damage. Measured inline with the World Health Organisation’s UV Index, MultiSensor 6 measures a room’s UV level so that an environment can be managed through curtains, shades and lighting, and so that health and property recommendations can be mad”

      An IP20 rating doesn’t really make it very suitable for outside use in the UK! You’d need to site it very carefully to avoid any rain whatsoever.

      The question I have is; will this work with Indigo? A lot of recent sensors and Z-Wave devices aren’t yet supported and may not be for some considerable time. It’s a shame really as I can see multiple uses for this device.

      Hi Simon,

      The new multisensor 6 does not work with the current version of Indigo, but we have one and are working on adding support for it. We don’t have an ETA as to when it will be available, but we definitely want to keep having robust support for the Aeotec line of modules.

      Hi Matt,

      Thanks for the clarification, but without an ETA I don’t hold out much hope. I’ve been waiting more than 6 months for Indigo to support the replacement Aeotec Recessed Door Sensor with still no sign of compatibility – what hope is there for even newer devices?!

      Hi Simon,

      Lots of hope. Look on our forum under the announcements section and you will see we have provided a steady stream of both major and minor updates to Indigo. As a company policy we do not provide details on our release schedules.

      Sound great! But with that much packed into a much smaller device, it would be interesting to see the reviews on how well it works. Or what trouble arises from mounting.
