    Apple Announce iPhone 4S – Here’s What You Need to Know

    A short time ago Tim Cook took the stage for the first time as the CEO of Apple at their Cupertino headquarters.  His presentation finally put an end to the usual wild speculation and rumour of the last few months.  So here are all the important specs of the new hardware along with some surprises too – check out our iPhone 4S cheat sheet for everything you need to know about the new hardware and that ‘game changing’ voice assist software that’s baked right into iOS 5…

    Hardware

    • UK /World Launch 14th October (Pre-orders open 7th October)
    • From £499 (16GB) plus 32GB and now 64GB Options too
    • Powered by Apple A5 Dual Core CPU (up tp 7x faster graphics)
    • Same Retina Display as iPhone4
    • Intelligent Switching Antennas for ‘even better call quality’
    • 14.4Mbps HSDPA
    • Single Model ‘World Phone’ GSM/CDMA
    • UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
    • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    • CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz)
    • Cameraa – 8MP f2.4 Camera 3264×2448 (60% more pixels than the iPhone 4) Face Detection
    • Video – 1080p HD with real-time video image stabilization & noise reduction
    • Voice Control – New Siri Intelligent Assistant
    • Bluetooth 4.0
    • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only)
    • 8GB 3GS Drop from £428 to £329
    • New 8GB iPhone 4 at £429 (16GB was previously cheapest iPhone 4 at £510)

    Software

    • iOS 5 Available as Free Update October 12th
    • iCloud Available October 12th too
    • New GPS location app called ‘Family and Friends’

    Other Stuff

    • iPod Nano minor update (16 new clock faces)
    • iPod Touch now in White as well as black, gets iMessage too
    • iPod Classic – Not mentioned?
