  1. Though it’s a streaming solution and while the EyeTV software allows you to watch the stream, I’m not sure that it allows you to record it (unlike the EyeTV Sat Free box that directly connects to a Mac).

  2. looks good, and recording looks to be possible (albeit only on the viewing desktops & laptops) …

but it’s a shame they didn’t (IIUC) go the extra mile & give it the ability to deal with more than just the one channel – two with add-on unit – and record locally to attached HD(s) …

especially with people watching on various separate devices quite likely wanting to watch different programmes …

& especially with recording being most useful when people & their individual devices aren’t around …

  3. Haupauge’s WIN TV product does a similar thing http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_novasusb2.html with the latest version of the included software using WinTV Extend to stream to “iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC ” – http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/wintv7/index.html, and it’s a lot cheaper.

The Elgato device has the advantage though of being able to plug in a second tuner.

  4. Thanks for the link Chris. Not sure it can do what the Elgato does though – it can live beside your router with just an Ethernet, Sat cable and power connection – serving TV to any computer on your network.

The Hauppauge seems to need to be connected to a computer via USB to work.

One of our readers on the mailing list pointed out that the Elgato can only do SD on its own like this though, it needs to be connected to a computer to stream HD.

  5. Hi all, I’ve got one of these and added a second tuner by plugging in the USB Sat Free. EyeTV installs on your Mac – I have it on a Mini unter the TV, and gives all of the features of the Humax Foxsat pro it replaces. I can watch TV on my iPad either my connecting directly to the Netstream and streaming live TV, or to the Mac to watch live TV / recorded shows.

  6. HD – have been trying to find out, without success, if it will deal with 1080p, as well as 1080i … ? And also with the BBC’s way of mixing the two … (*)
