Nest Protect – 6 New Videos Show Commitment to UK Market

    Table of Contents

Nest are getting serious about coming to the UK and they’ve added a selection of British video guides for their new ‘Protect’ to their YouTube channel.  From the videos it’s evident that Nest has gone to the trouble of recording local British voice alerts for the units they will be selling in the UK market.

The well thought out installation routine is very Apple-esque and includes a step where you scan a QR code on your device with your smarthphone’s camera.  You then connect to the units own built in Wi-Fi hotspot in order to pass it your homes wireless password.

The videos demonstrates the installation of both the mains (230 volt) powered unit and the long life battery version (with a claimed 5 year life).  We also see the setup with the Apps for both iOS and Android

The Nest Protect is available for pre-order in black or white for £109 with an estimated UK ship date sometime this November or December.  That could be an ideal prezzy for the Dad with everything this Christmas.

Meet the UK Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm

Safety shouldn’t be annoying. The Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm for the UK quiets down when you wave – no more swinging towels or brooms – and messages your phone when its batteries run low. Nest Protect speaks with a human voice, telling you where and what the danger is, and gives you a friendly Heads-Up before turning on a loud alarm.

In my opinion I think it would be a much better product if it supported a hard-wired link between each Nest Protect and not rely on a wireless link. It would be even better if it also supported existing hard-wired smoke detectors. You could then replace one at a time and not loose out on the benefit of having all your detectors being triggered if one goes off.
