Aeotec Door Window Sensor 6 is Minimal Z-Wave Plus Device from Aeon Labs

The new Aeotec Door / Window Sensor 6 is a Z-Wave Plus sensor from Aeon Labs that’s designed with a minimal look to fade into the background, rather than stick out like a sore thumb.

To aid with that the 9 x 72 mm ABS plastic body has been designed to be painted so you can colour it to blend in with the colour of your doors and windows.

The Gen5 unit houses 2 magnetic reed switches along its edge which employ a slim magnet (2mm) which can be placed up to 2.2cm away.

Both the mounting bracket and the magnet can be installed using double sided tape, tiny screws or even a dab of glue.

Aeon Labs say the built-in 500mAH battery lasts over 1 year on windows and around 10 months on frequently used doors. When the time comes, remove the sensor from its mounting plate and recharge it in a few hours via USB.

Other features include low battery warning, Wireless firmware updates. and an optimized antenna range of 150 metres point to point.

Aeon Labs Door/ Window Sensor 6 is a smart Z-Wave sensor that can detect the status of door/window’s open/close in real time. It’s a security Z-Wave device that supports security encryption. Also it supports the “Over the Air Firmware Updating” that allows you wirelessly update its firmware if needs. It can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from manufacturers and/or other applications.

Since I got the razberry working reliably I’m really impressed with ZWave, especially the AEotec devices I have, I find them more reliable than the Fibaro PIR I have for example.
