Oh yes.. Thats an interesting idea.. I have a couple of their tablets which I have never used.. That might work.... I am going to dig them out and have a look.

Indeed, its a lost opportunity. But with Amazon who knows, it might actually be a very deliberate decision.

In the light of comments here I have cancelled the order for the 5 and gone for 8.

The Ecohome WiFi panel was launched on the 1st of June 2015. In almost 8 years they have released 2 firmware updates. Resideo have NO development team assigned to the Evohome project at the moment. Make your own conclusions as to whether you believe the service desk or not

Indeed, it is sad that this is the case. Evohome works very well, I am not aware of anything better, unless I rip out my wet system and instal an all electric dry one, but then my bank account could not face the running costs. Honeywell developed an excellent product, once you set it up and you stop playing with it, it just works. The lack of a development team to ensure ongoing improvements smells of an intended obsolescence although I was assured they were to integrate the system with HomeKit and this year was implied.

Their security system is excellent, easy to install and run and again one of the best out there of its type. Yet they abandon it.

I am not saying Evohome is dead. All I am saying is that I was reliably informed that they do not have a team assigned to it, at the moment. Resideo was bound to make some changes and even now the integration of the old Honeywell assests into Resideo is a mess. So they have more on their hands to care about rather than making improvements to an 8 year old system, that as you say works.

Your skill (programming and alexa has the potential of making the controller redundant. Especially with your own API auth id. And once you plug an RF hardware device into that ecosystem you can even have control over the entire system where the API can't go. e.g. Fault Logs, DHW set point changes, pairing new devices etc. Can't wait to see where EvoControl takes things.

New Settings screen + options for 5" Echos

The settings screen has been redesigned to create extra space for more toggle switches for some new options (1 for now, more to come). The text describing each switches' function no longer appears adjacent to the toggle. Instead, we have a short caption with some colorful icons, plus individual ❔ buttons which will launch a modal popup with explanatory text when pressed. Think of it as context-sensitive help on the topic associated with the toggle. So if the caption means nothing to you, tap the help and read all about it!

The enable-HGI toggle used to be omitted entirely unless people had enabled the option in their Account, but now it's displayed and greyed out instead. This serves as a subtle reminder that the functionality exists and is just waiting for you to enable it

There's a new option to scale things differentlyscrolling will be required to see more than 8 tiles (as indicated by the little dancing scroll button at the very right in the footer):

Please let me know if anything looks odd on your particular Echo. The simulator can be a bit off at times and I don't have a 5" myself for a plausibility check.

As always, you automatically load the new code whenever you use the skill and do not need to update anything deliberately.

                        Good work, Phil

Can EvoControl be displayed on more than one Echo Show at the same time?

                        Thanks

                            Another question, Phil

How come there are no schedule information below the Guest Room and Garage tiles in the pics above?

                            Thanks again

Amazon identifies a 5" Echo correctly as being HUB-LANDSCAPE-SMALL in APL code run on the Show itself. However, code run in the skill's back-end sees it as HUB-LANDSCAPE-MEDIUM which is wrong (https://amazon.developer.forums.answ...esource-1.html).

As a workaround, the new scaling feature for 5" will not be greyed out on non-5" Shows. However, it will only have any effect on 5" devices so while you can now change the setting on larger devices if you like, it will not affect them.
