I’ve been enjoying Matt Ferrell’s ‘Undecided’ YouTube channel for a while now and it was a pleasant surprise to see his latest video was on Home Automation.

This time Matt gives an overview of an interesting new smart home system – the Hubitat Elevation. The hub has built in support for Z-Wave and Zigbee and offers compatibility with a wide range of hardware…

I’ve been on a quest for the perfect smart home platform. Something that can bridge the gap between Z-Wave, Zigbee, and WiFi smart home devices. Something that’s platform agnostic and can work with Google, Amazon, and Apple. Something easy to use and yet highly customizable. And even more important, a system that I have complete control over and has my privacy and data secured. Does that system exist? No. I might as well be hunting a unicorn. Is there anything that comes close? Yes … sort of. Today I’m going to be taking a look at the Hubitat Elevation hub, which is a crazy customizable smart home hub that can bridge the gap for a lot of different devices and services. And it comes really close to that mythical unicorn.

The makers described it as a “local solution” with your data and automation processing on the hub, rather than in the Cloud, promising it will be “fast, reliable and private”.

Hubitat has a bundle available for the UK and Ireland which includes the Elevation Hub (Model C-5) with internal Zigbee radio, USB Radio Stick for the UK/Ireland Z-Wave frequency (with cable), USB extension cable, UK/Ireland power supply, ethernet cable and User Manual – currently $114.95.
